Seven Steps to a Bedroom Oasis

Updated: Nov 30, 2021

If you’re anything like me, your bedroom is your happy place...From the mattress pad to the scent I diffuse, I consider every little detail. So to make the whole turning-your-bedroom-into an-oasis process a little more streamlined, I’ve developed a simple seven-step process to help you get started. Hear me out…

Step 1- The perfect sheets. I can not emphasize this enough! Choose sheets that feel good to YOU. Forget about thread count. Take some time to experiment and figure out what fibres make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud. My go-to is linen- I love that they get softer and softer each time I wash them but that they still feel crisp and substantial when I first get in.

Step 2- The right duvet. Like most things, I like to switch this up from season to season. In the winter I opt for something heavy and plush and in the summer I use a lighter option. Sometimes I just use a quilt. If you’re looking to upgrade or refresh your duvet, contact me for my Canadian made down options! They are amazing!

Step 3- The right mattress. This one can be an investment but ensuring you have the right mattress for your unique sleep patterns is crucial. If you think about it, we spend on average- two thousand nine hundred and twelve hours a year on our mattresses- so they may as well be good for our bodies! Again, ask me for some organic mattresses options- custom to your tenancies.

Step 4- Wall colour. This one is straight forward- choose a neutral colour you can find when you look out your window. For example, Benjamin Moore cloud white, moss green or granite gray. This isn’t to say you can’t have more colourful paint, I just recommend muting it a little to make sure it’s nice and soothing. For more specific recommendations, lets set up a colour consultation!!

Step 5- Decor. Keep this area simple as well. You don’t want to overstimulate your brain when you are trying to sleep- so try decorating with things like plants, tapestries and soft textures, as opposed to chaotic patterns and busy displays.

Step 6- Function. Your bedroom should be designated for sleeping and nothing else! If you’re currently using this room for another purpose I suggest considering a rearrangement. I know our homes have quickly become our schools, offices and play spaces but keeping this space exclusively for relaxation will help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

Step 7- Ambiance. Again, set the mood for sleep. Light a candle, play some nature sounds, spoil yourself a little. I promise you’ll feel more rested and ready in the morning (even though you may never want to leave the room)!

So there you have it- a few little tweaks you can make to your bedroom to create your very own oasis. We all need an escape from reality sometimes (especially these days) and in my mind, our bedrooms are the perfect space to shut out the world, we may as well make it a happy, cozy place to be!
